劇情簡介/相關花絮：
越戰退伍軍人朗柯維原是位對人生充滿光明期許的美國青年，越戰奪去了他的健康和前途，他變得意志消沈，最後轉變成為投入反戰陣容的狂熱份子，他在1976年發表了一本自傳叫做「Driven by Mon」，並由金獎導演奧利佛史東改編搬上銀幕。
影片分為兩個部份，從1956年7月4日朗10歲生日開始，這一天也正是美國的180歲生日，巨大的遊行隊伍過市街，但小男孩的眼中只有摩天輪和他的小女友。在教忠教孝的環境中長大，朗毅然投入沙場為國效命，他被派往越戰線，但發掘到的不是理想而是破滅………。
整個越戰場面在影片只出現有17分鐘，但就像一條鼠類、毒品、娼妓匯流的臭水溝般令人嘔。回到家鄉後他就像其他待在療養院的退伍軍人，退縮在聊天、玩牌的封閉世界裡，從夥伴查理的憤世嫉俗中，他彷佛看到一面鏡子中絕望的自己，他必須挺身而出為自己的罪懺悔，他必須揭露真相，並阻止悲劇繼續發生。在1972年於邁阿密舉行的共和黨全國代表大會中，他滲透進去被警衛推倒在地，他勇敢的反擊，並高呼口號，將影片帶入高潮…………。
